Building communities is at the heart of what we do, and there is much more to our communities than just homes. We create places that feel connected and accessible, places to meet, play and explore.

And what better excuse to meet up and get to know your neighbours than over lunch?

Since it started in 2009, The Big Lunch has helped to bring people and communities together across the UK.

A Big Lunch can be anything from a small gathering in a garden or park to a larger street party. The idea is to get together with our neighbours to celebrate our communities.

This year is extra special as The Big Jubilee Lunch is now part of the official celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend – and we are encouraging everyone to get involved.

Why not get together with your neighbours and host a Big Lunch or Big Jubilee Lunch in the street?

Looking to do something smaller with family and friends? Our homes are spacious indoors and out, with open-plan kitchen and living areas opening up onto your own private outdoor space, perfect for entertaining.

It doesn’t matter where you hold your lunch, the important part is bringing people together and getting to know each other better.

We have put together some suggestions to support your Big Lunch:

  • No street party is complete without bunting – you can order online or get creative and make your own. You can also take a look at other decoration ideas here.
  • Decide who is bringing what – each household can bring a different dish – and don’t forget the sweet treats. Looking for inspiration? Check out these recipe ideas.
  • Games and activities could be a fun way to spend the afternoon…here are some ideas of safe street party games for people of all ages to enjoy.
  • Why not give something back and raise money for charity at your Big Lunch? This could even be a charity or community group in your local area.
  • Don’t let it rain on your parade, you can get together whatever the weather. Does anyone have a gazebo or marquee? You could even use a local community space or church hall.
  • Take photos and enjoy the day!

The four-day weekend could be the perfect time to start the search for your perfect home – why not book a viewing at one of our show homes today?
