Ah the festive season is well and truly upon us; what better way to celebrate than indulging in one of Poundbury’s many Christmas events.
In the coming weeks, there are carol services-a-plenty, festive markets and much more – with events set in some lovely corners of our town. And if you want to come in from the cold, you can warm yourself up by visiting our brand new show apartment.
So, pop these yuletide dates in your calendar…
7th December, all day: Buttermarket Christmas Market, DT1 3AZ: Now in its fourth year, this lovely market gives you a chance to buy the best local produce, crafts and gifts from Dorchester’s most talented makers. Santa will be welcoming visitors (big and small!) into his grotto all day too – a lovely way to start the festive season with the whole family.
10th December onwards, 10am-5pm: Our brand new show apartment opens at Monaveen House, giving you a chance to look around and get a taste for life in this lovely part of the world. Our team are there to welcome you daily from 10am to 5pm with a warm smile and maybe a mince-pie too!
14th December, 12-4pm: It’s well worth a short and scenic, 20 minute drive out to the Walled Garden in Moreton, where the annual Christmas fayre on 14th December will feature, food, festive fun, live music and of course Santa’s grotto.
15th December, 10am: Frosty 5K, The Great Field, Poundbury, DT1 3RH There’s no harm in banking a few calories ahead of the mince pie indulgence, that’s why we’re excited for the Frosty 5K. In aid of the local Weldmar Hospice, the fun run trail goes through four exciting themed zones, in which you’ll run past snowmen, an igloo and a crackling fireplace.
19th December, 5-8pm: Story time with Santa, The Duchess of Cornwall Inn, 12 Queen Mother Square: Round up the grandkids and treat them to a lovely pre-Christmas story time with Santa. The jolly big man is taking a break from his festive duties and popping to Poundbury to regale local children with a magical Christmas tale.
21st December, 4.30-5.30pm: Carols in the Community, Piazza at Dorchester Community Church; with only four sleeps to go, what better way to conclude the festive run-up than with a good sing-song. Dorchester Community Church will lead carols in the community – and there’ll be puppets too! The church will host carols by candlelight at 6pm on the following day (22nd December) too.
